"In the process of doing research for an upcoming theatrical project I was reading M. Gigi Durham’s The Lolita Effect. I came across the passage describing the media's attitude and manipulation of female sexuality. The passage described how they often project the image of the Lolita onto younger and younger women. That’s when the first image came into my mind: The iconic cover of Kubrick's “Lolita” projected onto a disembodied torso.
Then the whole project began to form in my mind; the female body as the canvas and the twisted ideals of the media being projected upon it. Very quickly ideas such as the commodification of the female body, the accessibility of pornography, the sexualisation of all parts of the female form fell into place beside my original desire to explore Lolita. What we eventually produced is a series of photographs that I would consider both satirical and attractive."
